KXLF Communications has an immediate opening for Chief Engineer at KBZK Bozeman and KXLF Butte in Montana.


The Chief Engineer is responsible for all technical aspects of the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of computer, studio, microwave, translator, and transmitter facilities. Other responsibilities include strategic planning for all aspects of technical and engineering functions and management of the station's technical maintenance and master control staff.



  • Plan, manage, train, and coordinate engineering staff activities

  • Supervise preventive maintenance and/or troubleshooting on any electronic device or support electronics whether in-house or installed at transmitter; including but not limited to: cameras, video equipment, audio equipment, processing and monitoring equipment, microwave transmitters and receivers, satellite receivers, and computing equipment

  • Supervise and/or perform transmitter maintenance of all transmitters

  • Assist and advise in planning of future equipment installations, requirements, and budgetary recommendations

  • Supervise maintenance of computer software, hardware, and local area network applications on systems throughout the station

  • Establish the procedures to ensure that all IT equipment is operational and secure

  • Keep software versions up to date. Insures software license compliance. Follows all corporate directives for IT security

  • Respond to trouble calls with broadcast/computer equipment and physical plant

  • Other duties as assigned by Station Manager and VP of Engineering



  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Strong IT background

  • Solid background with RF expertise relating to microwave and transmitters as well as experience with the maintenance of computers and broadcast software.

  • 21st century skill set, a great team-oriented attitude and a dedication to quality

  • Strong leadership and management skills

  • Excellent communication skills


EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Broadcast Television Engineering

HOURS: Due to the nature of the business (we broadcast between the hours of 5am-1am) the hours require considerable flexibility however, a typical day is Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with a one hour lunch built in.


EDUCATION :Bachelor's degree in electronics or electrical engineering and/or a two-year electronics degree is preferred.  RF Engineering experience is a plus.
